I have been networking with several chiropractors in St. Clair County since opening CycleSurf Studio in the Fall of 2015.  I am amazed at the assistance chiropractors can provide for a wide variety of body aches, pains and injuries sustained from workouts, athletics endeavors and dance activities.

As I get older I have found a few glitches in my muscles and joints that chiropractic and acupuncture treatment (it is not scary or painful when administered by a professional) has helped with immensely.  For me personally, when I stay on a preventative healthy lifestyle path with a regular adjustment schedule with my chiropractor that I experience less aches and pain…feeling all around more healthy.  I also have been taking my son who is an athlete and my daughter who is a dancer for treatments and find that they have less aches, pains and complaints when they regularly visit the chiropractor.  I know that for many this is potentially a controversial topic – taking children to a chiropractor – but I have found that today they train so intensely that their bodies need the help of a professional to keep them functioning optimally.  They actually ask to go to the chiropractor which I believe is getting them more in tune with their bodies – a great outcome!

When I talk to our CycleSurf Community members, I find that many of them still believe that doctors (including chiropractors) are not preventative but there to only help with significant trauma and pain.  Chiropractors have traditionally been thought of as person to go visit for inoperable neck pain or back pain but in fact they can treat so much more, such as:

  • Headaches
  • Plantar fasciitis – foot pain and swelling
  • Achilles tendonitis – heel stiffness, pain and tenderness
  • Joint pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Knee tracking problems
  • Hip bursitis

Our family chiropractor has even helped my son who has severe allergies with adjustments to his nasal passages and sinuses for a remarkable improvement especially during allergy season.  Chiropractors can bring multiple treatment options to their patients, including:

  • Chiropractic adjustments for all muscle and bone groups of the human body
  • Order MRIs and X-rays to diagnose problems
  • Deep muscle work to remove knots and associated pain
  • Assisted stretching to regain range of motion
  • Spinal adjustments including using a rolling table
  • Electrical stimulation to get muscles and joints working properly
  • Assign rehabilitation and corrective exercises for injury recovery
  • Kinesiology taping to reduce muscle strain and support proper motion
  • Spinal and pelvis alignment
  • Acupuncture

 

Your chiropractor can even write physical therapist prescriptions to work on range of motion exercises and recovery from injury.  I have found chiropractors believe in fitness as a foundational element to a healthy lifestyle and have been very supportive of my low-impact and interval based training methods deployed at CYCLESURF STUDIO in O’Fallon, Illinois.

My chiropractor shared this simple framework with me and I wanted to pass it along to you:

If it not moving but should be:  ADJUST IT  Why?  It is the fastest way to get it moving again.

If it is moving but should not be:  TAPE IT  Why?  Bracing always creates stability.

If it is stuck in spasm and will not relax:  WORK ON IT  Why?  Muscles move joints and you need to get the joint to full motion and get the muscles to relax through adjustment & stimulation.

If it will not activate or move:  ACTIVATE IT  Why?  The muscle needs proactive retraining.

If the pelvis or spin is malaligned:  ALIGN IT  Why?  Malalignment of the pelvis and/or spine causes unnecessary tension on one side of the body creating an environment of chronic injury.
